INTECSEA Finds Creative Solutions for Field Planning using SMT KINGDOM
“What used to take me three or four days now takes me three or four hours.”
- John R. Brand, PhD Supervising Engineering Specialist – Survey and Geoscience Group - Marine Pipeline Systems, INTECSEA
Background
INTECSEA is a global company within the WorleyParsons Group. Drawing on the Group’s combined capabilities for floating systems, offshore pipelines and subsea production systems, INTECSEA offers clients complete project expertise and continuity, from subsea wellhead through to offshore and onshore processing and distribution locations.
The Challenge
One of INTECSEA’s ongoing projects involves a significant field development in one of the major deepwater areas of the world. The development will consist of subsea well completions tied-back to a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) tanker. INTECSEA is responsible for the subsea field architecture, including umbilicals, risers, flow lines and other systems, from front end engineering and design (FEED) through execution.
Early in the project, the company required the assessment of shallow hazard site-survey data to ensure proper citing of subsea architecture. It would be a complex undertaking. Horizon and interpretations data would need to be shared seamlessly across different software platforms and among team members and contrators from several companies participating in the project. Accuracy and cost-effectiveness were essential on this fast-paced project, therefore increasing the need for reliable, multi-tasking seismic software.
INTECSEA selected Seismic Micro-Technology’s KINGDOM Advanced. INTECSEA believed KINGDOM would serve as a powerful collaboration tool because it is the industry standard geoscientific interpretation tool for geo-hazard work, known to and used by all the geoscientists on the team.
“Anybody who understands and works with geophysical data will intuitively understand how to operate KINGDOM without extensive training.” - John R. Brand, PhD
Surprising Solutions
KINGDOM Advanced proved so powerful and flexible that it delivered benefits far beyond what was originally envisioned. As expected, the software generated accurate horizon data and made collaboration of interpretations and sharing of data easy among different users. But that’s not all: KINGDOM’s dynamic tools and features are allowing INTECSEA to use it as an interpretation suite specifically for field planning and subsea development engineering.
The SMT KINGDOM Advantage
INTECSEA’s PC-based, 64 bit KINGDOM system is so simple and intuitive that any authorized Windows user can easily access and manipulate the data without issues, either locally or across a network– and without special training. This saves time and allows the user to focus on what’s important -working with the data. And unlike other tools in the marketplace, KINGDOM provides full end-to-end functionality, such as superior and ever-expanding import/export features, all while remaining easy to use.
Users are able to move information seamlessly across software platforms to integrate with other geographical information systems (GIS) and analyses software. People from different disciplines review the information in their medium, and provide different perspectives and recommendations relevant to the engineering. Potential issues or problems are identified early on in the decision process and are addressed before adversely affecting cost or schedule.
Yet, instead of only exporting information out of KINGDOM to another GIS program for further analyses, the INTECSEA team is also bringing interdisciplinary data from various outside programs into KINGDOM to improve interpretations. Imported data is viewed alongside the 3D seismic and shallow 2D data. This serves to optimize the interpretations, rapidly assess conditions relevant to engineering, and assist in developing the engineering solutions required for confident layout of the deepwater field architecture. With the help of KINGDOM, the INTECSEA team got it right the first time around for the client, thus reducing engineering risk, costs, and project cycle time.
Other Global Solutions
INTECSEA’s Survey and Geoscience experts know KINGDOM provides the best option for working with the seismic data, and so employs the software as an important tool for applications that go beyond any single project."
“Within SMT’s KINGDOM 2D/3DPAK, there are enough tools to accomplish whatever you can conceive. And, you can bring in data from other programs to help complete the vision. If your client has an issue to address and its related to geology or geophysical data, there is a way to get it done in KINGDOM.”
