Each member of our team has brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their department, helping to ensure that customers get maximum value for their investment in our solutions. By doubling our customer base in the last four years, SMT has proved to be up to the challenge of providing the most user-friendly products that are both fully functional and have immense value to geoscientists all over the world.
Arshad Matin - President and CEO
Mr. Matin brings over 20 years in the high technology industry to SMT as president, CEO and member of the
board. Prior to joining SMT, Mr. Matin was vice president of the compliance and security management
business unit at Symantec.
Mr. Matin joined Symantec through the company’s acquisition of BindView Corporation in January 2006. At
BindView, he was president and COO directly overseeing products, sales, marketing, corporate development
and services functions. He led the successful turn-around at BindView which established the company as the
leader in IT policy compliance. Before joining BindView in April 2004, Mr. Matin was partner at the Houston
office of McKinsey & Company where he served clients in both high tech and energy industries. He started his
career as software developer for Oregon-based Mentor Graphics Corporation.
Mr. Matin earned his MBA from the Wharton School, MS in computer engineering from the University of Texas at
Austin, and BE in electrical engineering from Regional Engineering College in India. Long time Houston resident,
he and his wife have three daughters.
Stan Abele - VP of Product Management
Mr. Abele has 20 years of geoscience application development industry experience. He began his career at Pennzoil as a geologist and geophysicist. He then moved to Landmark, the world’s leading supplier of software and services for the upstream Exploration and Production industry, where he stayed for 15 years. Working in a number of management positions within R&D, he planned, directed and supervised program development and implementation of software products utilized within the energy industry.
Mr. Abele moved to SMT in 2004 where he spent one year in consulting before moving to the Director of Product Management. He has a BS in Geology from the University of Texas, Austin.
Indy Chakrabarti - Director of Marketing
Mr. Chakrabarti, with over a decade of experience in the technology sector, brings diverse marketing experience, from leading startup organizations to global businesses. He has held positions in corporate marketing, product marketing, and product management. Previous to his current role, Mr. Chakrabarti worked within Symantec marketing and product management. He oversaw go-to-market strategy for the market share leading, multi-million dollar, security & compliance management business unit. He has also held marketing positions at NetIQ (Attachmate) and Storage Provider.
Mr. Chakrabarti holds a Bachelor in Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Rice University and a Masters in Logistics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and his wife have two little twin boys.
Ken Gardiner - VP of EAME Operations
Mr. Gardiner brings over 25 years of oil industry related experience to SMT. Having both a B. Sc. Geology and M Sc. Stratigraphy degree Mr. Gardiner has worked both for oil companies, Chevron and United Energy plc, as well as bringing 20 years of service company experience to the company from the various arenas of consultancy to product and software sales.
Mr. Gardiner joined SMT in 1st Qtr 2003 to initiate and head up our first International office, based in Croydon, U.K. Having established Seismic Micro-Technology Europe, Ltd. (SMTE) in Croydon, his remit is to cover the UK, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Russia Regions. He is Vice President, EAME Operations, of the SMTE office and a senior business development manager for the region.
Mr. Gardiner's reputation has helped bring numerous opportunities for the organization and established SMT as a force to be reckoned with in the region.
Randy Harvey - VP of Development
Mr. Harvey, with over 25 years experience in the technology sector, brings a broad range of skills in leading
both large and small global commercial software development organizations. His breadth of software experience
includes developing and delivering ERP and CRM commercial software packages, industry leading e-commerce commercial
applications as well as Internet based content aggregation tools and application integration adapters.
Mr. Harvey has extensive experience in business management, product
management, product development and delivery, technical due diligence, customer support and in understanding
technology trends and drivers as a senior
executive at a number of commercial software companies. As Senior Vice President of Solutions Development and Delivery at Reynolds and
Reynolds, he led the successful restructuring and upgrading of the development organization that led to a
10% productivity improvement each year of his tenure. While Senior Vice President of Product Development at
Sterling Commerce, he directed the successful organizational and technical transition of a mainframe based
development organization to an organization that delivered the industry’s leading portfolio of UNIX and Windows
based electronic commerce products. He is an adept technology leader who understands what is required to build
world class development organizations.
Christopher Lewis - Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Lewis has 15 years of software development experience in the geosciences industry. He began his career at Seismic Micro-Technology shortly after he graduated from University of Houston. He was the original architect of SMT's flagship product 2d/3dPAK. Since then he has lead numerous development efforts that led to the successful release of SynPAK, ModPAK, TracePAK, EarthPAK, AVOPAK, CGMPAK, Tunnel L as well as taking the SMT Suite from a single user application to a multi-user enterprise interpretation system. During his 15 years at SMT, he has focused on building applications that are truly integrated and easy to use. He has held various development and management positions within R&D and design.
Mr. Lewis has a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from University of Houston.
Jake Pyles - Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Pyles joined SMT in August 2007 as Chief Financial Officer. He leads the
finance organization, where he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance
and accounting, tax and treasury. In addition to these responsibilities, he manages
the Information Technology, Human Resources and Legal areas for the company.
Mr. Pyles previously worked for McAfee Security from 2004 to 2007, where he initially
built the company’s first Sales Enablement and Operations team. Later, he moved
into the Finance function where he was promoted to SVP of Finance, leading the
company’s worldwide Accounting, Tax and Operations functions. Prior to McAfee,
he worked as VP of Finance for Remedy Software from 2002 to 2004, where he
lead the acquisition and integration of the unit into BMC Software. From 1995
to 2002, he worked for BMC Software in various Finance and Corporate Planning
roles. Prior to BMC Software, he spent two years with Coopers & Lybrand in
the Oil & Gas audit practice.
Mr. Pyles holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Southern
Methodist University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas.
He is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.
Bill Stephenson – VP of Sales, Americas
Mr. Stephenson brings nearly 20 years of sales, management and leadership experience to SMT. Prior to joining SMT, Mr. Stephenson was Director of Solution Sales, covering the Central United States for Symantec Corporation.
Mr. Stephenson joined Symantec through the company’s acquisition of BindView Corporation in January 2006. At BindView, he held various sales leadership roles in nearly 10 years of service where he was instrumental in BindView’s growth since 1997. Prior to BindView, he held various sales and management roles in the finance and specialty plastics distribution industries.
Mr. Stephenson earned his BBA in Finance from the University of Houston, and is a 4 year veteran of the US Army where he served in South Korea, Germany and in Southwest Asia during Desert Storm. He and his wife have 2 sons and a daughter and reside in the Houston area.
Richard L. Weindel - VP Asia Pacific Operations
Mr. Weindel brings 15 years of petroleum industry experience to SMT, and is based in Singapore where he manages SMT’s operations in the Asia Pacific region. His experience includes technical and management assignments in Europe, Africa, North America, and the Asia Pacific region. Richard holds degrees in geophysics and mathematics from the University of Tulsa and studied under Dr. Chris Liner.
Judy Yelverton - VP of Operations
Mrs. Yelverton joined SMT in October 2007 as Vice President Customer and Sales Enablement. She leads the Enablement organization, where she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Consulting Services, Customer Training, Maintenance and Technical Support. In addition to these responsibilities, she manages the Sales Operations functions for the company.
Mrs. Yelverton previously worked for Symantec, BindView, BMC Software and IBM in various management areas of Sales, Finance, Planning and Sales Operations. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from Texas A & M Corpus Christi.
