The KINGDOM Software – Rock Solid Attributes

Advanced 3D Post-Stack Seismic Attributes

TKS - Rock Solid Attributes (RSA) gives users access to 43 advanced 3D post-stack seismic attributes, including spectral decomposition and similarity. RSA is fully integrated into SMT’s KINGDOM® family of products to create a time-efficient, cost-effective solution for optimizing reservoir assets and increasing well accuracy.

Attributes are grouped in four categories:

  1. Spectral Decomposition
  2. instantaneous Attributes
  3. Wavelet Attributes
  4. Geometric Attributes

Spectral decomposition extracts narrow ranges of frequency from the original data, and a dozen or more seismic volumes are created with each extraction. Geologic features are enhanced when their thickness approximates the wavelength of one of these volumes. All 40 other attributes can be applied to spectral volumes for further analysis.

Instantaneous and wavelet attributes capture something of subsurface character: bedding thickness, lateral continuity, locations of sequence boundaries, porosity, fluid content, changes in lithology, energy absorption, fracture zones, sand/shale ratio, etc. As is true of all seismic data, there is no one-to-one correspondence between attributes and rock properties, but these new views of seismic data can improve understanding and interpretation.

The geometric attributes focus on bed continuity, dip, and divergence. Faults, unconformities, shaling out, and bedding anomalies in general can best be detected with these attributes.

RSA can output 16 instantaneous, 11 wavelet, and 14 geometric attributes and two types of spectral decomposition volumes. In addition to normal interpretation, attributes can be cross-plotted for in-depth analysis. Full integration with a powerful seismic interpretation package gives the geoscientist unmatched capabilities on his/her desk.
