CPU Recommendations
The optimal amount of RAM need varies depending on how large your project is. For
example, if you have a large project, with KINGDOM x64, you should have 8GB of RAM
and a Quad Core CPU. On the other hand, if you had the KINGDOM x32, you should have
at least 4 GB of RAM and two Dual Core CPUs.

RAM Recommendations
The amount of RAM needed to run KINGDOM can vary depending on how big your project
is, how many wells you have, and a host of other variables. SMT recommends a minimum
of 4GB of RAM to run KINGDOM. For large, regional projects, we recommend at least
16GB of RAM. We have also designed the calculator below to help you estimate your
requirements. However, this is not a definitive assessment of RAM for your environment.
SMT Services, working with your IT team, can help define an accurate picture of
the needs in your environment.
Note: For newer machines, RAM is now often sold in 6GB units. For example, instead
of 16GB RAM machines may come with 18GB RAM.

The units for each input are shown in parenthesis. The columns “Large” and “Small”
represent values that may be typical in those projects of that size.
The large and small column inputs are not meant as upper or lower bounds for calculator input, but merely as examples. You can enter whatever value is correct for your environment.
Video Card Recommendations
Two features available in KINGDOM versions 8.3 and later affect video card requirements.
Volume co-blending (VuPAK) and shaded relief (2d3dPAK) take advantage of some of
the new functions available in updated graphics libraries. Framebuffer Objects,
a relatively new extension to OpenGL, is needed to make these two functions display
properly.
Development and testing for VuPAK was done utilizing Nvidia Quadro FX3700, FX3800,
FX4600, FX 4800, FX 5600 & FX5800 Video Cards with 768 MB and greater of Graphics
Memory.
When shopping for a video card, look for a card that has:
- Shader Support 2.1 or higher
- At least 512 MB RAM (at a minimum - of course, more is better)
If you are unsure if your video card can meet these specifications, run a test program
like OpenGLViewer (included with the DVD, or it can be downloaded from here).
For example in the screen shot below, you can see that this video card with an older
driver only has 66% of the core features needed for OpenGL 2.1.

Video Card with old driver
After updating to a new driver, the same video card now supports all features of
OpenGL 2.1

VuPAK does not require the latest shader models and GPU functionality, but it does
perform best with greater memory and faster processing speeds. However, even a moderately
priced or older GPU can support VuPAK if it has shader support and the software
running it is up-to-date.
