Technical Support Policy Update
With the new release of KINGDOM 8.3, we encourage our customers to upgrade and make use of all the exciting new features and fixes available in this release. In keeping with our on-going effort to improve technical support processes, we will now be migrating reported and reproducible defects from pre-8.1 releases to our current known issues queue and closing out the remainder.
This migration process will help ensure that customers maintain visibility on their active issues and will be reflected in your My Account view. During this process if you encounter a closed issue that is still a defect in a current version please don’t hesitate to contact us. We will ensure this defect is added to our current issues queue. We will continue to provide technical support guidance for on-maintenance customers on all KINGDOM versions. As a reminder, all released fixes on reported issues will continue to be released on the most current version, 8.3.
Monthly Technical Tip
Upgrading to 64bit:
2009 will likely be the year that most organizations switch over to true 64bit computing. KINGDOM has supported 64bit computing since version 8.2. However, Microsoft Access will not support 64bit. As a result, customers who wish to see the performance improvements of 64bit will need to run the freely available SQL Express, or commercially license SQL Server or Oracle databases.
Why is 64bit better?
More addressable memory! No matter how much memory your computer has, 32bit can only address 4GB of RAM. This barrier is removed with 64bit computation. Since higher performance begins with greater memory, 64bit KINGDOM can be a great improvement for customers.
In fact, in internal tests we found at least 12 different operations that were significantly faster using 64bit KINGDOM. To see our results [ click here ].
Since Microsoft will not be creating a 64bit version of MS Access, customers using MS Access today will need to migrate to SQL Express, SQL Server, or Oracle to take full advantage. However, we have included a new tool in 8.3 to help you manage this conversion more easily. You can [ click here ] to view a pre-recorded web presentation that discusses 64bit in detail.
And remember, the new SMT Health Check service offering can help get you migrated to 64bit as well. Contact your account manager to learn more. |
