KINGDOM Training Classes
KINGDOM Training Course on Improving your NAPE Prospects
DATE: January 18th - 21st, 2010 (4-Days)
PRICE: $3,000 (or $2,800 if registered 3 weeks in advanced)
EARLY BIRD DEADLINE: December 28th
GET READY FOR NAPE!
SMT is offering a special pre-NAPE course designed to help you improve your NAPE prospects. Over the course of three days you will learn advanced mapping techniques, VuPAK, Rock Solid Attributes AND SMT staff will create seismic attributes for your personal project!

The area for analysis and attribute generation should be no bigger than four square miles and two seconds in time. One KINGDOM project per client. Day 4 will be devoted to private mentoring of the attribute volumes, by appointment only. The generated volumes are yours to keep, but we do require that you bring your KINGDOM project on an external hard drive when you arrive for class.
Advanced Mapping Methods - 1 1/2 Days (Monday - Tuesday morning)
Prior to the advent of computer-based modeling contoured surface models were created directly from plotted input information drawn on paper, with a priori geologic knowledge guiding the interpreter. The selection of a gridding algorithm depends on a combination of factors, most importantly the nature of the control data and the objective for the surface model.
To assist you with NAPE preparation, we will examine the following topics:
- Topographic Gridding Workflow
- Review of Grid Algorithms and Parameters:
- Color Techniques and The KINGDOM Color Toolbar
- Mapping Workflow: Conformable Surfaces and Cross-Cutting Relationships
- Mapping Workflow: Stream Channel, Grid Editor and Isopach Model Building
- Mapping Workflow: Pinnacle Reefs, Complex Surfaces and 3-D Grid Surfaces
- Mapping Workflow: Reverse Fault Structural Workflow
VuPAK 3D Visualization - 1/2 Day (Tuesday afternoon)
This course is designed for the experienced geoscientist. VuPAK is an interactive 3D visualization tool, which enables the interpreter to work with cultural, horizon, well, fault, surface and 2D and 3D seismic data more efficiently and effectively within a visualization framework. VuPAK is designed to be used with 2d/3dPAK (using either or both 2D and 3D data), AVOPAK, RSA, EarthPAK and TracePAK.
This course uses hands-on workstation exercises to address the following topics:
- Interpreting, assigning, displaying and editing faults
- Interpreting and displaying horizons, including Seeker technology
- Displaying well and log data, including tops and fault cuts
- Displaying seismic lines and/or time slices and attributes
- Animating seismic volumes
- Modifying color and light
- Volume rendering and opacity
- Posting wells and boreholes
Geological Prospecting Using Seismic Attributes (Rock Solid Attributes) - 1 Day (Wednesday)
This one-day course, driven by Rock Solid Attributes, introduces techniques for prospect generators who want to expand on conventional interpretation of 3D seismic surveys. The course demonstrates how multiple seismic attributes lead to a better understanding of structure and stratigraphy.
Benefits include:
- Reduction of stratigraphic and structural risk
- Better delineation of potential reservoirs
- Maximizing the value of older seismic data
The course features a combination of lecture and workstation exercises covering:
- History of seismic attributes
- Attribute classification:
- Instantaneous
- Wavelet-based
- Geometric
- Curvature
- Hybrid
- Brief overview of data preparation
- Workflows for using multiple attributes
Private Seismic Attribute mentoring - Thursday, by appointment
Private mentoring on seismic attribute volumes for two hours.

Monthly Technical Tip
Starting with the 8.4 release it is possible to generate a wavelet directly from the Tool menu. In the main menu, select Tools > Wavelets from the drop down list. This will start the Wavelet Wizard.
It is also possible to perform Tuning Analysis by selecting Tools > Tuning Analysis from the drop down menu.
