What’s New In KINGDOM 8.6
The latest release of KINGDOM offers 27 new capabilities for customers. New capabilities range across 2d3dPAK, EarthPAK, VuPAK, VelPAK, and some capabilities applicable KINGDOM-wide. Shown below are two of the largest enhancements. Click Read More below to see all the new features.
Re-Engineered KINGDOM Fault Surface Modeling
The New Fault System is a complete redesign of the original fault system to provide a more accurate interpretation with new tools to modify fault surfaces.
- A new triangulation engine provides better fault surfaces.
- Fault smoothing using flex grid technology smooths one or all fault surfaces.
- Fault polygons are created using the exact line of intersection between the fault and the horizon or grid.
Microseismic Analysis in VuPAK Advanced
- Integrates seismic data interpretation with microseismic events
- Displays the events in any 2D or 3D window in time or depth
- Filters the data by any attribute with results seen in all views
- Includes easy tools to lasso or digitize desired subsets in any view in order to cut or crop points
- Provides dynamic visualization of microseismic events by any attribute as applied to color, size, and visibility
- Dynamically updates with user manipulation of microseismic events
- Generates a better understanding of reservoir response to well treatments
- Brings microseismic evaluation to the interpreter's desktop

Now Available: SMT - KINGDOM 8.5 Hotfix 10
NOTICE: 8.5 Service Pack 2 must be installed before updating to 8.5 Hot Fix 10. (Please check with your System Administrator before installing any new KINGDOM updates.)
SMT would like to announce the immediate availability of Hot Fix 10 for KINGDOM version 8.5. This Hot Fix contains corrections made to KINGDOM product licensing since the release of 8.5 Hot Fix 9 on December 31, 2010. The changes are described in the Readme.
Update Your Software
The fastest and easiest method to obtain the Hotfix is to download is from the SMT Update Manager version 1.6 or later which downloads and applies the software update in one easy step.
Download and Apply the Hot Fix with the Update Manager
1. Launch the SMT Update Manager by one of the following methods:
If you are updating KINGDOM 32-bit or 64-bit:
- Start > Programs > The KINGDOM Software [version] 32-bit or 64-bit > Update KINGDOM
If you are updating KINGDOM Data Management:
- Start > Programs > KINGDOM Data Management [version] > Update KINGDOM DM
2. On the Start page of the Update Manager, select Check the web for updates and Next.
- You may need to download a newer version of the Update Manager. If prompted, browse to a destination directory for the download package, click OK and then Next.
- Enter your My Account user name and password, and click Next.
- When the download is complete click Finish to launch the installation.
- Click Close when the installation is complete. The Update Manager will automatically open.
3. On the Selection page of the Update Manager, select the Hot Fix from the list of available updates and browse to a destination directory for the download package. Click OK and then Next.
4. If prompted, re-enter your user name and password and click Next.
5. When the download is complete, click Finish to launch the InstallShield Wizard.
6. The installation of the update will begin automatically.
7. When installation is complete, click Finish.
Download the Update Files from the SMT Web site and then Apply with Update Manager
You can also download the update (*.rtp) files from the SMT Web site to a local or network location and then apply the update to individual machines with the Update Manager.
1. Login to My Account on the SMT Web site at http://mya.seismicmicro.com.
2. Click the Downloads link and select Software Updates.
3. Click on the 8.5 Hot Fix update, browse to the download location on your computer or network, and download the update files.
4. Unzip or extract the files with a zip file utility such as WinZip or Windows’ Extraction Wizard. The folder will contain 2 files: *.rtp and *.tag. Both files must stay in the same folder. When you apply the update you will need to specify this location.
5. Launch the SMT Update Manager by one of the following methods:
If you are updating KINGDOM 32-bit or 64-bit:
- Start > Programs > The KINGDOM Software [version] 32-bit or 64-bit > Update KINGDOM
If you are updating KINGDOM Data Management:
- Start > Programs > KINGDOM Data Management [version] > Update KINGDOM DM
6. On the Start page of the Update Manager, select I have the update *.rtp file already and Next.
7. On the Locate Update page, specify locations for the *.rtp and setup.exe files:
a. Update *.rtp file- browse to the unzipped folder location specified in step 4 above the select the *.rtp file - or browse to the file on the physical media (CD).
b. Setup.exe file – this field should be pre-populated if you launched the SMT Update Manager from one of the locations in step 1 of this section.
8. Click Next to launch the InstallShield Wizard. When installation is complete, click Finish.
Monthly Technical Tip
Users now have the ability (with version 8.6) to activate the new KINGDOM Fault System or use the existing fault interpretation system. BEFORE opening a project go to Project > User Preferences and select the new fault system tab. Toggle ON the new fault system from the radio buttons at the bottom of the New Fault System tab as shown below.
The new fault system takes the existing fault points and segments and creates a surface using triangles. The new algorithmic engine produces better fault surfaces and fault polygons than the existing fault system. Switching to the new fault system is optional, and users can switch back to the original fault system at any time.
New fault system users can also set the vertical separation boundary conditions for faults by using the Fault Surface Management Trend/Die tab as shown in the figure below.
