New in KINGDOM 8.7: Web-Mapping Services and KINGDOM Connect

Adding Spatial Data to your KINGDOM Maps (WMS)

KINGDOM 8.7 provides a simple mechanism to add Web-Mapping service layers as culture data. Any user may simply connect with a service, choose layers and add them to a map. This process allows users to easily leverage WMS services provided by internal GIS groups or subscription services provided by companies like Spatial Energy.

Access to WMS is available in both KINGDOM Core and Advanced and operates with any base license feature.

Coming soon in KINGDOM, Data integration through IHS Enerdeq Direct Connect
We are in the process of building a new Direct Connect to the IHS Enerdeq server. Direct Connect will help our customers easily integrate IHS data directly into their KINGDOM workflows. Please join our upcoming, pre-recorded webinar to get a preview of the coming data integration: Enhancing KINGDOM's Data Integration with Maps, Applications and Data – Follow This Link

Access to WMS is available in both KINGDOM Core and Advanced and operates with any base license feature.

3rd Party Application Workflows - KINGDOM Connect

As an interpreter, how many times have you had to break your interpretation workflow to have someone else export grids from one application and import them into another? How long does it take you to recover?

KINGDOM Connect is designed to help enable complete data workflow integration between KINGDOM and any other OpenSpirit-enabled application.

How it Works

KINGDOM Connect is an OpenSpirit Application Adapter created by SMT that allows users to easily move data between different applications.

When users launch KINGDOM Connect, it automatically finds and connects to the OpenSpirit environment and registers all necessary information about your current KINGDOM project.

User can choose to listen for data being broadcast from the OpenSpirit Data Selector, or any OpenSpirit-enabled application. KINGDOM will automatically receive and load the data from the broadcast.

To send data from KINGDOM to other listening applications such as Petrel or ArcGIS, users can simply drag one or more items from the KINGDOM project tree and drop them on the KINGDOM Connect application to automatically send them to other listening applications.

KINGDOM Connect captures all information about data being sent and received and preserves a history of all transactions. The application can also be minimized to a small toolbar, leaving the focus on the KINGDOM interpretation environment, while still providing users the ability to leverage the power the data transfer.

KINGDOM Connect is an additional module available for either KINGDOM Core or Advanced. Existing TunnelO customers will receive KIGNDOM Connect automatically with their 8.7 upgrade.

1. Login to My Account on the SMT Web site at http://mya.seismicmicro.com.
2. Click the Downloads link and select Software Updates.
3. Click on the 8.5 update, browse to the download location on your computer or network, and download the update files.
4. Unzip or extract the files with a zip file utility such as WinZip or Windows' Extraction Wizard. The folder will contain 2 files: *.rtp and *.tag. Both files must stay in the same folder. When you apply the update you will need to specify this location.
5. Launch the SMT Update Manager by one of the following methods:

If you are updating KINGDOM 32-bit or 64-bit:
• Start > Programs > The KINGDOM Software [version] 32-bit or 64-bit > Update KINGDOM

If you are updating KINGDOM Data Management:
• Start > Programs > KINGDOM Data Management [version] > Update KINGDOM DM
6. On the Start page of the Update Manager, select I have the update *.rtp file already and Next.
7. On the Locate Update page, specify locations for the *.rtp and setup.exe files:
a. Update *.rtp file- browse to the unzipped folder location specified in step 4 above the select the *.rtp file - or browse to the file on the physical media (CD).
b. Setup.exe file – this field should be pre-populated if you launched the SMT Update Manager from one of the locations in step 1 of this section.
8. Click Next to launch the InstallShield Wizard. When installation is complete, click Finish.

Request Physical Media
If you do not have an Internet Connection and need to obtain the KINGDOM update on physical media, you will need to contact our support organization and request shipment of the KINGDOM update.

Attribute of the Month - Colored Inversion

Colored Inversion is a relatively simple and robust method to transform migrated seismic data into a band-limited acoustic impedance volume by shaping the mean seismic spectrum into the impedance log spectrum. This approach only gives a relative acoustic impedance which does not contain any low frequency components.

USES: Colored inversion transforms reflection coefficients from the seismic data into acoustic impedance layers. This inversion method can make it simpler to interpret the variations in thickness related to various lithologic packages, properties of thin beds, and changes in acoustic impedance associated with fluid effects and rock property variations.

Colored Inversion was first introduced by Lancaster and Whitcombe (2000) and involves deriving an operator that transforms the seismic amplitude spectrum to the acoustic impedance spectrum from well logs with a -90° phase change. This typically requires crossplotting the log of the well acoustic impedances versus log of amplitudes to derive a best-fit line to the data. The slope of this line is used to develop an operator to apply to the seismic data to convert to acoustic impedance. The logic employed is that the gross spectral properties from the well acoustic impedances in any given field are reasonably constant. A phase rotation may be applied to the seismic data, but this approach assumes the seismic is zero phase. Colored inversion may establish a base case to compare against more sophisticated inversion techniques.

MONTHLY WORKFLOW TIP

Still Waiting to Upgrade to 8.6? (We think you will like all the new customer requested enhancements. Here is one user's perspective.)

Comments on KINGDOM 8.6 From A Customer At A Large Independent

"I just wanted to say that I really like the new improvements to SMT and I wanted to highlight a few that have really helped streamline many of my workflows.

1) The scale bar on a map - I know it sounds small, but this has been invaluable to me, especially when we have to make quick critical decisions on wells. With this, I can now just open any map, position the scale bar where I need, and quickly take snapshots for my Managers.

2) User defined Mistie and Checkshot tables - This has been working out great for me. It has really helped cut down on the frustration levels between geophysicists working in overlapping areas where everybody sees a line-tie differently. Not having to always double check to make sure my 2D ties have stayed the same has really saved me a lot of time and frustration.

3) Readouts along the wellbore - This has been great. It has been very handy to have all depth measurements show along the well (MD, TVD, TVDSS, ect…) This again has saved me a lot of wasted time in getting my geologists a quick number for the depth of a horizon or fault in any well.

4) The ability to right click and add new wells to a map - This has been a great, great time saver. It is so awesome being able to just place my cursor on a map and drop a well location on it without having to write down the X,Ys, then open a menu and then re-enter the coordinates. Very useful add-on

5) The new fault interpretation - The new module is really a great improvement. I really appreciate being able to make my faults a lot more complex without getting anomalous fault projection lines. This has really helped to improve my fault interpretations and displays.

6) The ability to send interp (faults or horizons) to VuPAK through a right-MB click - Very handy. I don't use this often, but, when I have, it has been great to click on any fault I want to review in 3D space and have it directly sent and posted to VuPAK.

I know that there are other features in 8.6 that I'm forgetting to highlight, but these have really stood out in my mind for helping me with my every-day tasks and I just wanted to pass along my thanks for all of the changes and improvements you and your team have done so far."

Thank you.
